Located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, this majestic fortress was built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgayl. The Dzong served as the capital until 1955 and remains the winter residence of the monk body.

Famously known as the temple of fertility, Chimmi Lhakang is visited by many couples facing challenges with conception. Women entering the temple often carry a wooden phallus around the temple three times as part of the ritual. Another tradition at the monastery is to strike pilgrims on the head with a 10 inch wooden phallus.
A pedestrian bridge made of steel cables and wooden planks that crosses over the Pho Chhu river. The bridge spans a distance of approximately 160m and is adorned with colourful prayer flags and breathtaking views of the river offering a unique experience of the local culture and way of life.
